Amalia Navarro

I am a French-American photographer, born in Washington D.C., and currently living in London. I am in my final year at the London College of Communication, studying towards a BA in Photography. Greatly inspired by my surroundings, I seek to represent fleeting moments in time, offering a new perspective on the little
moments that escape us during our busy lives.

While living in Elephant and Castle, one feels the authenticity of the neighbourhood from its rich and complex history, yet one is also invigorated by the energy the changes in the community inspire. Values, old and new, congregate in Elephant and Castle, creating an area that has held onto its core traditional values of hard work, acceptance, and community, but also an area that embraces new values, such as diversity, opportunity, and mutual respect, creating a vast network of people – neighbours – that interact openly with one another.
Each piece is composed of overlaid images taken around Elephant and Castle. One might feel the excitement of decoding the many strata present in the photographs, just as one may feel in the anticipation of discovering the diverse layers that Elephant and Castle has to offer. Timeless, these photographs represent a poignant marriage of the past, present, and future of Elephant and Castle.
