I grew up in the North of England, studied a Fine Arts degree in Birmingham and came to London in 2015 to get my MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography. My practice has always been somewhat tied to identity, whether it be my own, another person, small group or even country, and with the nature of the MA, the cosmopolitan nature of London, and significant social and political milestones such as Brexit occurring I often found myself stuck between the culture I grew up in and the culture of London.

When I first moved to London I lived in Elephant and Castle and always loved how it could be so close to the centre of London but be so different. Before I moved here, and even now to be honest, when someone says London I think of Big Ben, the London Eye, the Shard etc and no-one talking everyone rushing around the big city. The Mercato Metropolitano is 5 minutes away from 251 on the road leading into Central London. They have food stalls, a cinema, supermarket – all organic, handmade natural produce. It’s a place where people can go to socialise and relax and it’s the vibe and atmosphere that allow that. I wanted to show the little quirks of the market that you might miss if you weren’t looking but which absolutely give it the south London, multicultural vibe that makes is so great.
